After passing through the entrance to one of Japan’s largest caves, you’ll explore the underground space that lies beyond. You’ll experience the region’s unique characteristics and history, as well as the connection between its people and the cave, and begin to discover why this limestone cave is revered as a sacred object.
Caving Tour Guide with 15 Years of Experience
You'll be guided by a local resident of Niimi who runs an activity tour business set in this area.
Experiencing Local Food Culture
Guests will receive instruction from a local master—who inherited the art of making soba from her mother—and try their hand at making soba, a dish that was traditionally grown and eaten in local households for reasons unique to this region.
They will also gain insight into local culture not found online, including stories about the master’s childhood experiences with food.
Brought to Life Through Interaction Between Guests and Local Residents
This regional specialty, Kenchin Soba, was created with input from our guests.
We’ll serve this soba—which has long been a beloved New Year’s Eve dish—for lunch.
We’ll explore the reasons why the limestone cave is revered as a sacred object from a culinary perspective.
You’ll enjoy lunch inside a 75-year-old traditional Japanese house. While experiencing the simple, rural lifestyle of the Japanese people, you’ll have the chance to immerse yourself in the daily life of the local community.
