This tour offers a special experience delving deeply into how Japan's traditional textile industry has evolved and is building a sustainable future.
Japan has a longstanding culture of fully utilizing items made as kimono, from work clothes and diapers to ultimately even fertilizer.
In Fukuyama, where the textile industry developed within this culture, the concept of resource circulation—“using everything made to the fullest”—has influenced local manufacturing, systems, and ultimately community development.
Fukuyama, known since the Edo period (1603-1868) as the production center for Bingo Kasuri, has leveraged its locally cultivated techniques and the “mottainai spirit” to grow into a major denim production hub today.
This is more than just a tour; it's a story of the future woven by Fukuyama's textile industry. Step into a journey that stimulates your intellectual curiosity through dialogue with artisans and helps you discover new perspectives toward a sustainable society.
